STUDENTS HAVE REALISED THE IMPORTANCE OF A HEALTHY DIET WHEN IT COMES TO CARING FOR THE ENVIRONMENT. AND THEY HAVE REACHED THE CONCLUSION THAT PLANT-BASED FOODS, PARTICULARLY LOCAL ONES, ARE MORE USEFUL IN THE FIGHT AGAINST CLIMATE CHANGE.

WE WORKED ON AND DISCUSSED THE IMPORTANCE OF BIODIVERSITY IN ECOSYSTEMS AND THE NEGATIVE EFFECTS CAUSED BY THE DECREASE IN DIVERSITY. WE THOUGHT THIS CHALLENGE WAS VERY INTERESTING TO MAKE STUDENTS AWARE THAT BY MAKING SMALL CHANGES IN OUR DAILY LIVES WE CAN HELP TO PROTECT THESE ENDANGERED SPECIES…

SOME IDEAS FROM THE WORK CARRIED OUT:
 CONSUME LOCAL PRODUCTS, AS THERE IS LESS TRANSPORT INVOLVED AND THAT SAVES ENERGY
– USE PUBLIC TRANSPORT WHERE POSSIBLE AND AVOID PRIVATE TRANSPORT.
– AVOID BUYING THINGS ON A WHIM AS MANUFACTURING THESE THINGS GENERATES A GREAT DEAL OF ENERGY EXPENDITURE AND, POSSIBLY, POLLUTION.
– ASK OUR ADMINISTRATIONS AND GOVERNMENTS TO FIGHT TO CURB CLIMATE CHANGE AND CHANGE ENERGY POLICIES.

IN CONCLUSION, WE NEED TO REALISE THE IMPORTANCE OF EACH AND EVERY ANIMAL AND PLANT SPECIES ON THIS PLANET… IT IS IMPORTANT THAT WE DEVELOP OUR EMPATHY AND AWARENESS, STOP BEING SO SELFISH AND DOING EVERYTHING IN OUR POWER (EVEN IF IT IS MIGHT SEEM TOO SMALL TO BE IMPORTANT) TO LIVE IN A HEALTHY AND SUSTAINABLE WAY WITH ALL LIVING BEINGS.

NOT ONLY DID I HAVE FUN, I ALSO THOUGHT ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF WATER. FOR EXAMPLE, IT IS EASY TO WASTE UP TO 3-5 LITRES OF WATER IN THE SHOWER OR AT THE SINK, WHILE IN OTHER COUNTRIES IT IS DIFFICULT TO FIND ANY WATER AT ALL AND OFTEN IT IS NOT EVEN SAFE TO DRINK. LET’S GET INTO THE HABIT OF ENJOYING EVERY LAST DROP OF WATER!

SOME IDEAS AFTER REFLECTING WITH THE EDUCACLIMA RESOURCE:
– TAKE FULL ADVANTAGE OF NATURAL LIGHT.
– SWITCH OFF ALL THE LIGHTS YOU ARE NOT USING.
– PUT THE LIDS ON POTS AND PANS WHILE COOKING TO SAVE ENERGY.
– UNPLUG ALL ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES WHEN YOU ARE NOT USING THEM.
– KEEP YOUR HOME AT A COMFORTABLE TEMPERATURE BY MAKING EFFICIENT USE OF HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING (BETWEEN 22-24 °C).

TREES ARE JUST LOVELY. “I FEEL IDENTIFIED WITH PINE TREES BECAUSE WHEN I WAS LITTLE I USED TO PLAY WITH BITS OF BARK THAT FELL OFF THE TRUNKS. I USED TO MAKE LITTLE BOATS WITH THE BARK AND PUT THEM IN THE RIVER BY MY VILLAGE AND WATCH THEM DRIFT AWAY…” TREES GIVE US TOYS, TOO!

IN THE PROJECT, NOT ONLY HAVE THEY BEEN SHOWN THE THEORETICAL FOUNDATION; THEY HAVE ALSO BEEN ABLE TO DO RESEARCH INTO THE BEHAVIOUR OF THE EARTH’S DIFFERENT ECOSYSTEMS AND HOW WE INFLUENCE THEM. THEY ALSO DID ACTIVITIES THAT SHOWED THEM AND ALLOWED THEM TO ANALYSE ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS THAT HAVE EXISTED OR STILL DO EXIST IN SPAIN.

“WHEN I SAW THIS CONTEST I THOUGHOUT IT WAS VERY INTERESTING AND MOTIVATIONAL TO PRESENT TO MY STUDENTS BECAUSE IT CLOSED THE CIRCLE OF WHAT THEY HAD LEARNED, THUS FIXING THE KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED. WHAT’S MORE, TAKING PART ON BEHALF OF THE SCHOOL WAS MOTIVATIONAL AND ENCOURAGED TEAM WORK. AND THAT IS WHAT HAPPENED: WE HAVE NEW CHAMPIONS OF NATURE AND THEY HAVE LEARNED HOW TO BEHAVE IN IT.

DURING THE LOCKDOWN, WE HAVE BEEN WORKING ON THE CONCEPTS OF ECOLOGY, BIODIVERSITY AND THE WORLD’S ECOSYSTEMS WITH A PROJECT THAT LASTED A MONTH. WITH THIS CHALLENGE, WE HAVE PUT WHAT WAS LEARNED INTO PRACTICE.
